Yeoju World Ceramic Livingware Gallery presents the special exhibition, Making Colors, from May 12 through November 29, 2020.
Under the theme of colors, this exhibition introduces artworks to be interpreted as ‘expression of emotion’ in diverse genres of art.
Colors generally elicit emotions in everyday living. Research on the effects of colors on our emotions and feelings have even been conducted by various methodologies to develop medicine, and colors are a positive source of energy that gives us the strength to move on. Each of the four artists participating in this exhibition delivers the viewers messages in his or her spectrum out of aspiration to help understand changes in emotion by sensory transfer of color and introduce color emotions expressed by diverse techniques.
Lee Dong-ha & Celadon
The color code of Lee Dong-ha’s ceramic objects is celadon blue imbued with leisurely feeling. He introduces a three-legged dish, voluminous lidded bowl with softly flowing lines that pique the curiosity of viewers as it doesn’t show its interior, and an incense burner in elegant, round shape with beautifully curved lines.
송Song Ji-yun & Millennial Pink
Song Ji-yun’s millennial pink – color that is not felt in real space, color that emits brilliant energy as if light – conjures up RGB color in liquid crystal. This two-dimensional landscape painting is a critique of today’s sick reality of suffering due to fabrication and contradiction.
Go U-jeong & Ultraviolet
The color of Go U-jeong’s objects emit such strong energy that it recalls transcendent shamanistic inspiration beyond this world. While holding on to traditional pottery-making technique, Go U-jeong maximizes sculptural elements to deliver a message through objects.
Lee Heul-gi & Gen-Z-Yellow
Pure white looks perfect, but it is like a vast void. Contained in the infinite space, worldly thoughts all disappear and only afterimages in black and white remain to deliver a message of healing.
