A total of 80 artists have participated in the relay invitational exhibition Functional Ceramics by One Hundred Korean Artists since the exhibition series started in 2012.
Celebrating the 11th edition this year, this exhibition subtitled with “Finding the Roots” presents masterpieces by the first and second generation of established artists of contemporary Korean ceramics, including Kim Yikyung, Cho Chung-Hyun, Kwon Young Shick, Ree Soo Jong, and Roe Kyung-jo. They have concentrated on ‘vessels,’ the first-ever form of ceramics. By comparing the shapes, textures, and aesthetic sentiments of such varied works, this exhibition will allow us to rediscover the nature of different types of works and to look at the distinctive approach of each artist.
The display of works was done in cooperation with the Hanji Culture and Industry Center. The display with hanji (traditional Korean paper) very effectively reveals the shape, texture, and aesthetic sentiments unique to each work while creating harmony in the exhibition space.
