Journey to Table

  • Duration : April 22 ~ December 31, 2016
  • Place : Gallery 3 & 4 on the 2nd floor of Yeoju World Ceramic Livingware Gallery

One-hundred-ten works by fifty-two artists (seventy ceramic works such as vessels, ornaments, and lighting by forty-one artists/ forty works in other genres such as painting, photography, woodwork, and fashion by eleven artists) are on display.

Journey to Table focuses on ceramic crafts that serve both as works of art and commercial products, and the space created by such works. Most of the works except for paintings, photos, and illustrations are displayed to highlight their distinctive features and functions as handicrafts, as distinguished from mass-produced products. The exhibition hall is divided into private space and commercial space consisting of eight spaces of everyday life that invite viewers to appreciate the objects displayed and communicate with them.

Looking at each work, viewers will imagine how each can be used and displayed. In doing so, viewers will feel desire to both aesthetically arrange their own space and to purchase the works.

Fermented sauces called jang in Korean are one of the most important ingredients of Korean cuisine. In Korea, bean paste, red pepper paste, and soy sauce are kept in large jars and fermented. These jars are comparable to objets of contemporary art and are symbolic of Korean cuisine. They are very representative of ‘Korean beauty.’ (Lobby) Jangdokdae
