The Icheon World Ceramic Center and the National Folk Museum of Korea are pleased to co-host a special exhibition, The Promenade: Healing in Nature, organized to provide relief and calmness to visitors taking a break from the hectic pace of daily life and sizzling summer days.

Our ancestors enjoyed travelling or resting in nature by dipping their feet in stream or sitting under a tree or on a wooden-floor hall to appreciate nature, when they were fatigued from their daily lives. In the present day, we have many more ways to relax and unwind than in the past, but taking a break in nature and relaxing on a journey are still popular ways to refresh ourselves.

The Promenade portrays a traveler who begins a journey to his/her friend’s house. The journey begins at dawn and ends at night, and it is divided into four parts – a journey for resting, a morning walk, an invitation in the afternoon, and sentimental moonlight. Each part of the journey incorporates objects used in daily life of the past and contemporary ceramic works. The peaceful walk in woods in the morning and a refreshing time with a friend in the afternoon, and lying down to watch stars at night – these are the true moments of resting and a time to look back on our lives.
