2014 is the Year of the Blue Horse, which only comes around once every 60 years. If we interpret blue according to the Korean people's time-honored theory of yin-yang and five elements, blue denotes the material of wood, the direction of east, and the season of spring. In celebration of the Year of the Blue Horse in the month of May, when the energy of life revives, the exhibition An Ode to Blue focuses on the color blue in a meaning of prayer for the ambitions and rapid spread of contemporary ceramics in the future.
A wide spectrum of blue is found in crafts and contemporary fine art, not to mention ceramics. An Ode to Blue has been arranged to shed light on the aesthetics and characteristics embodied in contemporary ceramics from a new viewpoint through the color blue. By presenting works from different genres such as painting, video, and textiles together with ceramics, which share emotional sympathy through color sense of blue, this exhibition will provide an opportunity to find new meanings with different genres communicating with each other.
