- Under the theme of ‘New Horizon of Ceramic Arts,’ debate was conducted on various socio-cultural factors for the expansion of contemporary ceramics and development of ceramics as fine art in the context of contemporary art.
- The International Symposium on Celadon was held in conjunction with ‘The Color and Shape of Celadon,’ one of the main exhibitions of The 3rd CEBIKO.
The results of studies by scholars were confirmed with actual celadon pieces.
As ‘The Color and Shape of Celadon’ was the first exhibition of its kind where celadon of Korea and China was compared, the symposium was composed of three sections - a keynote speech, special lectures, and presentation of thesis and general discussion – so that the audience could learn about the research by senior scholars and look at the latest trends in research.
This workshop was arranged in conjunction with the International Ceramic Symposium.
The ceramic-making process was demonstrated to the public in real time. Participating ceramic artists showed what was happening on the scene of contemporary ceramic art, where cross-over of different genres was occurring, and how they challenged contemporary ceramic art by overcoming material and the expressive limitations of clay.
The workshop was held in two sessions at Yeoju Toya Ceramics Studio. The program consisted of a slide presentation by participating artists, ceramics-making demonstration, and lectures. Joint works with Korean artists and students and discussions with visitors to the workshop were also made.
- Fourteen world-renowned ceramic artists specialized in wood-firing kilns were invited to this workshop to experience traditional Korean wood-firing kilns. Wood-firing kiln techniques all over the world and experience of the artists in working with wood-firing kilns were discussed.
The workshop consisted of a slide presentation by artists, ceramics-making demonstration, and experience of Korean wood-firing kilns. A seminar on the characteristics and structure of wood-firing kilns by country, history of wood-firing kilns, and operation of kilns at present was held to clear the way for academic research.
Miniature wood-firing kilns of different countries displayed at the workshop were of particular interest to the audience.
